French 18th/ 19th Century Iron Lantern

Rare iron lantern, France circa 1750-1850

Beautiful and rare folk art rolled sheet iron pendant lantern with a great patina due to its high age.
The lantern has a cylindrical body with a conical pediment pierced with intricate decorative perforations.
The lantern has one small door and 2 lovely small round windows.
With this unique design such a primitive piece enabled the flame to be protected from draft but still allow for a beautiful amount of illumination. When lit by candlelight , the light does not only comes through the small round windows, it also scatters from the small incisions in dancing patterns across surrounding surfaces.
Really a rare and collectible period piece.
